Houston outfit The Suffers will headline the City of Beaumont’s 13th Annual Jazz + Blues Fest scheduled for Saturday, June 20, at the downtown Event Centre Lake at 4 p.m. Tickets are $15 and go on sale Wednesday at 10 a.m. via ticketmaster.com or the Beaumont Civic Center box office.

The Beaumont Event Center drew hundreds of business and community leaders to hear Mayor Becky Ames give her state of the city address Feb. 27. Ames recapped a year fraught with economic growth, job opportunity expansion, cultural arts achievement and resilience in the face of natural disaster.

BREAKING: Victim burned in downtown Beaumont

Beaumont emergency officials received a call Thursday morning that an individual had been burned from what an eyewitness stated was "a burn barrel tipped over on an individual." Air Rescue landed in an empty lot near the corner of McFaddin and Magnolia in downtown Beaumont.

As Beaumont prepares to host its Mardi Gras celebration from Feb. 20 – 23, many downtown roads will be closed to accommodate parade route and other festivities.

Cyclist struck and killed on College Street

A 36-year-old cyclist was struck and killed by a car in the 2500 block of College Street around 2 a.m. Feb. 14, according to a news release.  The victim, identified as Jerry Lynn Brachett, was struck from behind by a Hyundai Accent traveling the same direction.
