Cyclist struck and killed on College Street

A 36-year-old cyclist was struck and killed by a car in the 2500 block of College Street around 2 a.m. Feb. 14, according to a news release.  The victim, identified as Jerry Lynn Brachett, was struck from behind by a Hyundai Accent traveling the same direction.

Bout of road rage lands Beaumont man behind bars

After allegedly ramming the back of multiple cars, crashing into a mud pile and firing several rounds into the ground, a 26-year-old Beaumont man was arrested just before 9 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, according to a news release.

Beaumont City Council to hold evening meeting

Beaumont City Council’s weekly meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 11, in its regular location. Council has been discussing the possibility of holding evening meetings over the past months in an effort to be available to more residents.

BPD SWAT bust yields bevy of drugs

Beaumont Police, along with a SWAT team, arrested two after a search of a residence Feb. 6 on Ironton Avenue yielded varying amounts of copious drugs and multiple handguns, according to a news release.

Alleged kidnapper commits suicide behind bars

A prisoner at the Jefferson County Correctional Facility died in a local hospital Feb. 5, two days after a suicide attempt in his cell, according to a news release from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. The victim, Joshua Allen Sees, 22, was arrested by Beaumont Police Sunday, Feb.

West Brook senior selected for state choir honor

A senior at West Brook High School has earned a placement in the Texas All-State Mixed Choir, to perform in San Antonio Feb. 15, according to a news release from Beaumont ISD. Connor Cummings will take part in the choral performance during the 2020 Texas Music Educators Association Convention.

MLK Day Parade scheduled for Saturday

Beaumont’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8. The parade will begin at the Lamar Institute for Technology, at the corner of University Drive and East Lavaca, and end at King Middle School on Avenue A.

Fourth arrest made in connection to Beaumont kidnapping

A fourth person of interest has been arrested in connection to the night four suspects bound and tortured a 17-year-old in a Beaumont hotel on Interstate 10. Thanks to a collaborative effort between BPD the Hardin County Sheriff’s deputies, Joshua Allen Sees, 22, was arrested Saturday, Feb.
