FROM TxDOT – As part of the I-10/US 69 Interchange Projects, the contractor has scheduled a traffic shift for the Eastex Interchange portion of the project this weekend (weather permitting).
Beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, motorists traveling on I-10 eastbound will be shifted to the left to allow the contractor to advance work on the interchange project. Work will take place between Washington Boulevard and the I-10/US 69 split. During the implementation of the new traffic pattern, traffic on I-10 eastbound and US 69 northbound may be reduced to one lane at various times.
Saturday, Oct.10, from 3 - 8 a.m., the contractor will close the direct connector to US 69 northbound. Motorists will be detoured to I-10 eastbound, where they will use the Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway turnaround to access I-10 westbound and then exit to US 69 northbound.
All lanes are scheduled to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 12.
This traffic pattern will stay in place for approximately 24 months. I-10 westbound traffic will not be affected during this traffic shift.
Also for this weekend, the outside lane of I-10 eastbound from Brush Island Road to Hamshire Road will be closed daily through Saturday, Oct. 10. Closures will be in effect each day from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Motorists should expect delays.
Additionally, expect intermittent closures of the I-10 eastbound and westbound main lanes and frontage roads in Chambers County near FM 1406 from 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, to 6 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 11. Entergy will be moving electrical lines across I-10. Motorists should expect delays.
