The Beaumont Police Department has received questions regarding immigration enforcement activities and BPD’s role in those operations.
The Beaumont Police Department’s primary responsibility is to protect public safety, respond to calls for service, investigate crimes, and enforce applicable state and local laws. Federal immigration enforcement is primarily the responsibility of federal agencies, including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Federal agencies may conduct operations within Beaumont independently, and their presence does not mean that BPD is participating in those operations.
BPD cooperates with federal, state, and local law enforcement partners when appropriate and in accordance with applicable laws and department policies.
BPD is also aware of a peaceful protest planned for Sunday at Rogers Park. Members of BPD’s Special Response Team have been in contact with the event organizer and will be present at the park to help ensure the safety of participants and the public. BPD respects the right of individuals to peacefully assemble and express their views, and our role during the event will be to maintain public safety and ensure the gathering remains peaceful.
