Kelly's Williams dominates at Dylan Kelley Memorial High School Invitational

The seventh annual Dylan Kelley Memorial High School Invitational showcased the very best of high school golf Oct. 21 at Beaumont Country Club, featuring the largest and strongest field in tournament history. A total of 110 players from 16 top programs across Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana competed in what has become one of the region’s premier golf events.

Reece Williams, a junior from Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School, delivered a dominant performance, firing a 6-under-par 66 to earn individual medalist honors and set a new school scoring record for Kelly. Williams’ round included six birdies and just one bogey, with matching nines of 33–33, capping off one of the finest individual rounds in the event’s seven-year history.

“This was our strongest field yet, and the competition was phenomenal,” said Kelly head coach Rob Long. “For Reece to set a school record and for our team to finish tied for third against this level of play says a lot about how far our program has come. It was a great day for everyone who loves this game and what Dylan stood for.”

Drake Andrepont, a senior from Hardin-Jefferson, claimed second place with a strong 4-under 68, while Quention Frost of The Woodlands Christian Academy and Matthew Burke of St. Thomas High School (Houston) tied for third with rounds of 3-under 69.

In the team competition, The Woodlands Christian Academy captured the team title, posting an impressive 291 to edge St. Thomas More (Lafayette, LA) at 294. Monsignor Kelly Catholic (Beaumont) and St. Thomas High School (Houston) tied for third with matching 298s.

“Each year, this event continues to grow 0 not just in size, but in meaning,” said tournament director Nancy Gonzales. “The caliber of players, the sportsmanship, and the way everyone comes together to honor Dylan makes this tournament one of the most special events of the year.”
