Lamar breaks ground on new turf field

Lamar University broke ground Oct. 9 on a state-of-the-art intramural field directly behind the Wayne A. Reaud Building at 985 Jim Gilligan Way. The turf field, which will also come with lights, will create a dedicated space for the LU marching band to practice, intramural fields for students to participate, walking trail that can be used by LU students, staff as well as the community and a fieldhouse with water fountains and restrooms.

The competition date is April 2025.

After an early bye week, the No. 22 Lamar Cardinals (3-2) will host Stephen F. Austin for Homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 12, with a 3 p.m. kickoff at Provost Umphrey Stadium. The rivalry dates to 1951 when the teams first played in 1951 with a LU victory, 26-14. SFA has won the last two meeting, which includes a 42-6 dusting in Beaumont in 2021.
