Crackshot's 'Crack Shoot' scores national win

Lumberton High School senior Lucas Shirley won in the grand finals with a 4-0 score, making him tops in the United States at the High School E-sport League (HSEL) Nationals on June 7-9 in Kansas City, Missouri. 

Known as “Crackshot” among gamers, Shirley competed in the esports Super Smash Brothers Ultimate bracket playing as the character Terry. He placed second in the HSEL Central Division Spring Major in May, which earned him a spot at nationals. 

Shirley, one of two students representing Texas at the nationals, advanced to top eight after ending with a 3-1 score Day 1 while representing as one of the Top 12 Smash Bros. He then secured a spot in the finale after winning his semifinal matchup. 

In the first year of LHS E-sports in 2021, Shirley competed against 950 students in HSEL’s Super Smash Bros. League where he then placed third at nationals.
