Passing grades, school attendance rewarded with free fair day

Beaumont ISD students have the opportunity to enjoy a free day of fun at the upcoming YMBL South Texas State Fair – weather permitting – courtesy of the Young Men’s Business League (YMBL) and individual student efforts to earn a pass to the premium play day.

“Scholars who meet specific district-defined discipline and academic criteria will qualify to participate in an exclusive event – the YMBL-BISD Fair Day Experience,” BISD Superintendent Shannon Allen announced Feb. 21. If weather allows, eligible students in 3rd through 12th grade will receive district transportation to and from the fair grounds, free admission, free rides and the opportunity to purchase vendor fares. Students in 9th – 12th grade are scheduled to attend from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. on March 29; students in 3rd – 8th grade are scheduled to attend from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. on March 30.

To qualify, students must have less than four days of in-school suspension and zero days of out-of-school suspension, as well as zero days of assignment to alternative centers for discipline purposes as of March 10; receive passing scores in all courses during the first semester and in the third nine-week grading period; and also post 94% attendance.

Eligible students will be notified March 27, receiving a personal invitation letter, instruction sheet and a parent consent form that must be signed and returned.

With less than a month until the BISD Fair Day, Superintendent Allen encourages the students to plan to attend: “Remember to work hard on your grades, follow the rules and get ready to share in a fun day at the fair!”
