Sheriff spots several scams
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that it has been “made aware of several scams that are active in the Jefferson County area this week.”
According to the sheriff’s office, “Someone representing themselves as a JCSO Deputy is calling people with the threat of arrest due to missing jury duty.
“They are requesting that the victims send funds to pay for their fine or face immediate arrest. They can even spoof a legitimate local phone number and make it appear as if the call is coming from an actual Court or from the Sheriff’s Office.”
Additionally, JCSO advised, “We have also been made aware that someone has called local residents pretending to be a family member with an emergency and asking for funds to be sent immediately. They are preying on the emotions of the victims.
“Don’t fall for these scams. Take the time to research the calls.”
