Beaumont Business Academy
Erika Harris, CEO and Owner, Erika Harris Consulting, LLC, led the fifth and final Beaumont Business Academy of 2022, emphasizing the importance of public speaking. Harris taught participants some keys to making successful and less stressful presentations and to speak like a professional.
Watch for more learning opportunities when the 2023 program resumes. Beaumont Business Academy is put on in partnership with Lamar SBDC and Capital One Bank.
SHS Student Council delivers blankets
Silsbee High School Student Council members delivered 50 blankets to the Ben and Julie Rogers Cancer Institute in Beaumont on Dec. 13.
It was part of their participation in the Texas Association of Student Councils state project ‘Kick Cancer.’
Members were able to personally hand out blankets to patients that were there for treatments.
“The opportunity to give those in need was heartwarming,” said Marc Gutierrez, senior Student Council member.
H-JISD students visit Pelican Bay
Dec. 15, the Sour Lake Elementary School’s Student Council traveled to Pelican Bay, an assisted living facility in Beaumont, and sang to the senior residents.
After the group sang, Student Council members passed out personalized, hand-made Christmas cards to the seniors.
Economic Development
The Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce recently launched its new Economic Development Division to be led by Chris Fisher, Beaumont Port Director, and about 25 outstanding community leaders. It was so insightful to hear this group’s ideas for economic development. Several key takeaways: Diversification, Inclusiveness, Sustainable, Intentional, Forward Thinking and Forward Leaning, Measurable and Positive Impact.

Book signing to visit Beaumont
Dan Clouser, a traveling author, blogger, podcast host, and speaker will be conducting several book signing events at Kroger Grocery stores in Beaumont, the first two events to be at the 3965 Dowlen Road location on Dec. 22 and 23 from 3 – 7 p.m. The final two events in Beaumont will take place at the Kroger Grocery store located at 3845 Phelan Blvd. on Dec. 29 and 30 from 3 – 7 p.m.
Clouser will be signing both paperback and hardcover copies of his books, “The Beauty of a Diamond, Through the Eyes of a Coach” released July 21, 2021, and “The Journey of My Mother’s Son, Volume I” released May 15.
Clouser and his wife, Sandy, now live full-time in an RV traveling the country with their golden retriever, Youkilis. The couple is currently volunteering at The Dream Center, a faith-based recovery center located off FM 3514 in Beaumont.

Saying bye to Beauchamp
Dec. 13, friends and family joined in bidding a fond farewell to Orange County Theresa Beauchamp, Precinct 2. Beauchamp retired from county service and had previously served on the Orange City Council, as well.
