Card campaign brings cheer

This year, the Shorkey Center has started a new Holiday Cheer Campaign to spread seasons greetings to area residents. For a $10 donation, the Shorkey kids will personalize 10 holiday cards that will be delivered to area nursing home residents. The cards are created by the children serviced for occupational, physical, speech and applied behavior analysis therapy (ABA) at the Shorkey Center.

Alternatively, the cards are available for purchase, $10 for 10 cards and 10 envelopes, available at the Shorkey Center, 855 S. Eighth Street in Beaumont.

Family fun on the Museum of the Gulf Coast

Museum of the Gulf Coast will host a fan-favorite family day Saturday, Dec. 10, from 10 a.m. – 1p.m. Attendees will have the opportunity to pose with Santa – and/or the Grinch – and have a photographer capture the moment. Stable-Spirit will bring horses for visitors to pet, and the museum’s gift shop will be open for holiday shopping.

The Port Arthur Lighted Holiday Parade – which will include floats, decorated flatbeds and local groups showing their holiday spirit – will follow at 6 p.m. The route is along Procter Street in downtown Port Arthur. The event will conclude with a tree lighting ceremony.

On the waterway, the Port Arthur Yacht Club has again scheduled a lighted boat parade. The club is on T.B. Ellison Parkway on Pleasure Island and this event is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10.

Living nativity at FBC of Loeb

The First Baptist Church of Loeb will host a living nativity titled “A Walk to the Manager” on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 9-11.

It tells the story of a coming Messiah culminating with the birth of Jesus. The event is free to the public.

The church is located at 3082 U.S. 69 South in Lumberton.

Pediatric party

Legacy Community Health Clinic will be hosting their annual pediatric holiday party on Monday, Dec. 12, from 5 – 8 p.m. at the Beaumont Children’s Museum, 701 Main St. in downtown Beaumont.

The clinic hosts a pediatric holiday party for patients and local children. This year, the holiday party will be in person and offer a gift for each child, a photo with Santa, cookies, a craft, and opportunity for the children to fill a stocking with stocking stuffers. The goal is to make it a day these children will not forget.

Subaru shares with United Way

JK Subaru is hosting its 14th annual Share the Love event through Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023, to benefit United Way of Beaumont. For every new Subaru that is purchased or leased, Subaru of America Inc. will donate $250 to the United Way of Beaumont, and locally owned dealership, JK Subaru, will provide a $250 match. Additionally, JK Subaru will donate $5 to United Way for Subaru vehicle service repair orders during the Share the Love timeframe, as well.

Community Christmas and Parade set

Sour Lake’s Community Christmas Event and Parade is set for 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at Lions Park.

There will be food trucks, free activities, s’mores, pictures with Santa, train rides, music and more.

Also in the Hardin County city, Sour Lake Trade Day is Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Alma Carpenter Community Center, 250 South Ann St. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Creekside Christmas

Creekside Christmas is 6-9 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, at Village Creek State Park. See the park like never before, illuminated with lights galore. There will be s’more roasting, hot chocolate, pictures with Santa, crafts, and more.

The event is free to the public so bring your families, neighbors and friends and share some holiday cheer. The park is located at 8854 Park Road 74 in Lumberton. For more information, call (409) 755-7322.
