Gold gouger indicted over plumbing bill

I, police and The Examiner for allegedly stealing more than $1 million in coins and precious metals from his nationwide patrons, a Beaumont businessman notched another theft charge Dec. 7 – this time, for failing to pay his plumber.

Michael James White, 34, a man who, according to an Examiner investigation, has racked up theft allegations and charges totalling $1,495,789.69, most recently earned an indictment for theft of services when he allegedly refused to pay Marathon Plumbing.

According to a probable cause affidavit signed by Beaumont Police Department’s Detective D. Doucet, White refused to pay $3,567.45 to Marathon Plumbing for leak repair they completed July 6.

“On July 5, Michael James White contacted Marathon Plumbing to schedule a service at his residence,” reads the charging document, marking White’s fourth indictment in two years. “On July 6, Marathon Plumbing employees went out to White’s address and discovered that there was a slab leak and repair was needed.

“The employees presented Michael and his wife, Julie White, with a repair estimate for $3,567.45 and the pair agreed to it. Upon completion of the work, Julie signed the invoice stating that the work was complete. Michael advised Marathon Plumbing workers that an account transfer would be made in the amount, but funds were never sent to the business.”

Repeating a behavior identified by Gold Pro customers who say they were defrauded in their attempts to buy gold and silver – outlined in previous articles by The Examiner – White refused to answer several calls and attempts to obtain payment.

According to information gathered from Judge Raquel West’s 252nd District Court, White’s next court appearance is set for the first week of January 2023.

Attempts to reach White’s attorney Dustin Galmor by phone were unsuccessful as of press time.
