UPDATE: (2:35 p.m.) The Symphony of Southeast Texas confirmed that Michael Westbrook has passed away due to COVID-19. "A treasured member of the SOST trumpet section for over 30 years, he was a dedicated musician and teacher. Members of the orchestra will miss his smile and wonderful sound.

According to a March 26 news release from the U.S. Department of Labor, more than 3 million Americans filed for unemployment between March 15 and 21. “During the week ending March 21, the increase in initial claims are due to the impacts of the COVID-19 virus,” the release reads.

DSHS accelerates COVID-19 case reporting
