The Landfill is now closed, according to a press release.
“Winds are picking up and we want to remind citizens that did not evacuate to secure your trash cans,” the release read. “You may need your trash containers after the storm to empty refrigerators and dispose of other debris.”

From Entergy: “Based on Hurricane Laura's current forecast and track, (the Beaumont) area may see extended power outages. Given the intensity of this hurricane and the additional need for our crews to follow COVID-19 precautionary measures, hardest-hit areas may experience outages for weeks.”

Laura has become a very powerful hurricane this morning. The satellite presentation has continued to improve with the eye becoming better defined, and cloud tops colder than -70C in the surrounding ring of deep convection.
Ahead of the pending landfall of Hurricane Laura, Jefferson County has called for the early closure of Hwy 365 gates, shutting off access. County spokesperson Allison Getz advises that the gates will close at 11 a.m. on Aug, 26, one hour early.
Beaumont and Port Arthur mayors are asking for those who need transportation out of town to evacuate from the pending impact of Hurricane Harvey to make their way to staging stations and eating buses as soon as possible.
