Eight horses killed in barn fire

Eight horses were killed in a barn fire on Oct. 4 near Tyrrell Park, reported the Beaumont Fire Department (BFD). BFD responded to the fire about 11 p.m. in the 5500 block of Downs Road. The barn was owned by the 10/4 Riders, a local trail-riding group. Two horses survived the blaze.

Escapee captured

Four policing agencies took an alleged escapee into custody in Orange County. The Orange Police Department, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, US Marshals, and the Texas Department of Public Safety executed an arrest warrant for Joseph Damon Gorney, an alleged criminal escapee, on Oct. 6.

Three arrested after warrant executed

Man arrested for harboring runaway girl

A 32-year-old Hardin County man was arrested and charged with harboring a runaway teenage girl on Oct. 6, reported Tyler County Sheriff Bryan Weatherford.

BPD seeks person of interest

Beaumont police investigators are looking for a person of interest and need the public’s help. Detectives wish to speak with Channin Keon Ardoin, a 39-year-old Beaumont man. Investigators believe Ardoin has information about a structure fire that occurred Friday, Oct. 7. At about 9:32 a.m.

Accused child rapist's trial set

After an alleged history of raping his girlfriend’s 14-year-old cousin, a 28-year-old Beaumont man is on the 252nd District Court docket to begin his defense starting with jury selection Oct. 17.

Judge mulls alleged bird-beheader's weed use

A local judge told a Nederland defendant – a man accused of beheading his girlfriend’s pet bird before battering the pregnant woman – he had 30 days to begin following rules outlined in his bond or else she’d send him to prison ahead of his potential trial.
