Now in its 19th year, Home Instead’s “Be a Santa to a Senior” is currently underway throughout Southeast Texas, and local seniors can be “adopted” through ornaments found on Be a Santa to a Senior trees scattered in the Tri-County area through Dec. 21.

Card campaign brings cheer This year, the Shorkey Center has started a new Holiday Cheer Campaign to spread seasons greetings to area residents. For a $10 donation, the Shorkey kids will personalize 10 holiday cards that will be delivered to area nursing home residents.

BPD finds human remains

Sunday, Dec. 4, at about 12:09 p.m., officers responded to a wooded area near the 3100 block of Astor and Delaware St. in reference to the finding of human remains.

Motorist injured in two-car crash

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) investigated a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 96, south of the Jasper County line, on Nov. 29. Sgt. Shana Clark, DPS spokesperson, stated the preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 10:30 p.m.
