Taxes past due

Jefferson County property taxes still not paid in full are now accruing penalties, according to Tax Assessor-Collector Allison Nathan Getz. Property taxes were due in full on Jan. 31, Getz explained. Beginning Feb. 1, penalty and interest is applied to unpaid tax balances.

HARDIN CO.| Boy, 15, struck, killed by unknown vehicle

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers are investigating a fatal crash that killed a 15-year-old male in Hardin County on Jan. 29, according to a DPS statement. DPS reported at approximately 7:39 p.m., about two miles north of Silsbee on FM 92, a 2018 Buick Encore was traveling north.

Senior Annabelle Fisher, who is committed to play college soccer at Texas State next fall, scored her 100th career high school goal over the weekend when the LCM Lady Bears competed in the Salado Tournament. An all-state cross-country star, Fisher was also named Queen of the LCM Winter Formal.

Jeff Mathews announced his retirement from coaching and will step down as the athletic director/head football coach from Vidor High School. Since 1999, Mathews and the Pirates have advanced to the playoffs nine times with two district titles.

Good time to hunt wild hogs

Last week I was out on a friend’s ranch in the Hill Country and we were after pigs. I love hunting pigs; they are not nearly as stupid as a lot of folks think. For the most part they don’t come out until right at last light. So, one day last week I set up on a bass tank to see what would show up.
