Girls’ Haven Gumbo Festival

The 28th annual Girls’ Haven Gumbo Festival is set for Saturday, Feb. 11, at Classic Southeast Texas from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cooks from around the area will compete with their best dishes all while raising money for Girls’ Haven.

Symphony of SETX

The Symphony of Southeast Texas will present, “Liberty: The Pursuit of Endurance” on Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Julie Rogers Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $33 and can be purchased online at sost.org.

LU adds 22 football players on National Signing Day

Lamar University added 22 players on National Signing Day – 12 signees and 10 transfers (seven Division I transfers and three junior college) – announced head coach Pete Rossomando at a press conference Wednesday afternoon.

BAW Resale & Interiors, LLC, “Beaumont’s Antique Warehouse,” at 1096 Calder Ave. in Beaumont, is welcoming the community to a new First Thursday event, introducing the “BAW Lounge 1st Thursday Open Mic/ Poetry Nite.” The inaugural event will take place Feb. 2, with shopping from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Vegetable canning class planned

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office, 11475 FM 1442 in Orange, will host a vegetable canning class on Saturday, March 4. Hands on canning will be taught by Family and Community Health Agent Fallon White. The class is $35 per person and payment is due by Feb. 24. Call (409) 882-7010 to register.

Free permits to trap feral hogs in Big Thicket

Big Thicket Preserve staff will issue free feral hog trapping permits at the visitor center beginning Monday, Feb. 6, at 9 a.m. Permits will be issued first-come, first-served until all 50 have been claimed. A Texas hunting license is required for trapping in the preserve.
