Hardin County ESD No. 5 receives training aids

Hardin County Emergency Services District (ESD) No. 5 received a $10,000 grant that allowed for the purchase of a Dell computer, training videos and mannequin.  The training aids grant was provided by the Texas A&M Forest Service Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program.

GoFundMe account set for couple killed in Colorado crash

A GoFundMe account has been set up for a Fred couple who was killed in a Colorado crash on Feb. 16. Calvin Wallet, 47, and Jessica Wallet, 39, died from injures in the crash. The account will be use for funeral expenses for the couple. According to Sgt.

Silsbee High’s GOLD! robotics team wins 4A state championship

The Silsbee High School’s GOLD! Robotics traveled to Houston and won the UIL Class 4A VEX Robotics Texas State Championship on Feb. 11. The team’s two robots took both first and second place and was the sixth tournament championship team GOLD! has won during the school year.

Boxing Orange native O’Shanique Foster shocked the boxing world Feb. 11 when he defeated Rey Vargas by unanimous decision to win the WBC junior lightweight title at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, by the scores of 116-112, 117-111 and 119-109.

HARDIN COUNTY| Longtime Sonic employee retires after 46 years

Customers at the Sonic Drive-In in Silsbee will not hear the sweet voice of longtime employee Brenda Rhone any longer over the microphone. After 46 years, Rhone, 65, retired from Sonic on Jan. 31, a place she had worked since 1976.  Rhone started working at the first Sonic location on U.S.

Shaken or stirred? Southeast Texas’ Pioneering Women is hosting a mixer to train attendees in the finer art of mixing martinis – three different kinds, to be exact – on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 4 p.m.  The event, dubbed “Ladies Mixing Martinis,” will be held at Revues Event Venue, 3690 S. 11th St.
