The 2022 Racial Profiling Reporting for the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), approved by commissioners for the minutes on Feb. 28, shows the department made 956 total traffic stops for the year under review.

Sheriff Mark Davis reported to the Commissioners Court that, of the total number of stops, 455 were on county roads, while 218 were on state highways and 171 were on U.S. roads.

HCSO reported race or ethnicity was known 91 times prior to the stops and 825 of the stops were of White motorists.

As for gender, 830 stops were male – 728 being White males. HCSO reported that 375 of the stops were for moving traffic violations and 340 stops were for vehicle traffic violations.

A search was conducted in 146 stops, 136 being on White motorists; 59 searches were conducted by consent, and 68 were undertaken under probable cause. Contraband was discovered in 79 stops: 55 were drugs, and 20 were alcohol.

HSCO reported 826 of the stops were verbal warnings and 87 citations were written. Only 30 individuals were arrested and 15 had outstanding warrants.
