Woman killed in auto-pedestrian wreck

In the pre-dawn hours of Sunday, Jan. 19, Port Arthur police officers were called to the 5100 block of Highway 69 in reference to a major traffic accident where a vehicle struck a pedestrian.

On arrival, officers found that a black female pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle. The pedestrian died as a result of her injuries. Justice of the Peace DeRouen arrived on scene and ordered an autopsy. Members of the Advanced Accident Investigation team, as well as an ID technician responded to assist with the investigation. The woman was later identified as Catherine Leday, 31, of Beaumont. The investigation is currently under investigation by PAPD's Criminal Investigations Division with assistance from the Advanced Accident Investigation team.
