A trio of Vidor Police Department (VPD) officers was honored during a Life Saving Award Ceremony on April 11, recognizing their heroic response to a February incident.
First to arrive on the scene, Officers Dillon LaPoint, Trooper Spera, and Joshua Robinson responded to a medical emergency at the Whataburger on North Main Street on Feb. 17, realizing that the individual was not breathing, and quickly initiated CPR. Officers announced CPR in progress, and with the assistance of Acadian Ambulance Service and Orange County ESD No. 1, the officers revived the patient.
“I am very proud of these officers for going above and beyond in their service to our community to help an individual in the most dire need of assistance,” said Police Chief Rod Carroll. “We often hear and see what officers are doing wrong, and not what they are doing right, but these three young men are what’s right in our society and in our profession.”
The award marked LaPoint’s second Life Saving Award with VPD, after providing life-saving assistance to a gunshot victim earlier in his career.
