Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) reported a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 on July 13, near Mile Marker 857.

According to DPS, the preliminary crash investigation indicated at approximately 3 p.m., a 2008 Dodge pickup, driven by Eugene Breaux, 69, of Sour Lake, was in the right lane. At this time, investigators believe the driver of the Dodge took evasive action into the center lane to avoid a potential hazard in the roadway and struck a 2019 BMW SUV, which caused the BMW to strike a 2004 International truck tractor semi-trailer.

The driver of the truck tractor semi-trailer, Osorto-Maldonado, 46, of Houston, then crossed all lanes of the highway and struck the concrete barrier and caught fire. Osorto-Maldonado was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont for treatment.

The driver of the BMW, Betty Nichols, 72, of Buna, was also transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Beaumont for treatment.

Breaux was not injured during the crash.
