Kelia Dixon, accused of crime after crime involving drunkenly driving her vehicle – at least once with child passengers – was sentenced to deferred sentencing in lieu of successful completion of four years of probation, as well as SAFE-P substance abuse interdiction. “SAFE-P” is the Texas Substance Abuse Felony Punishment Facility, offering advanced in-house care typically followed by halfway house confinement to continue rehabilitation.

“There is a history of substance abuse,” Jefferson County Judge Raquel West said in sentencing Dixon on Jan. 4. According to court records, in addition to the alcohol-related offenses that resulted in Dixon’s arrest, the accused also tested positive for “Delta 9, THC, cocaine metabolite, phencyclidine and alprazolam when she was checked into jail.”

Court documents show that Dixon was charged with driving while intoxicated a little more than two years ago, the status of that case still pending in County Court at Law No. 2. Less than a year ago, Dixon was arrested for driving while intoxicated yet again – this time with two child passengers. According to the reports charging Dixon with the DWI with child passengers in 2022, the accused was initially stopped by emergency medical personnel – in an ambulance –concerned about Dixon’s wellbeing due to her erratic driving on the freeway. Police arrived on scene and, after Dixon continued to display signs of obvious intoxication, the drunken driver was taken into custody and remanded to the Jefferson County Jail.

Released on bond for her second drunk driving charge, roughly two months later, Dixon was again detained for suspected drunken driving.

Despite three separate offenses spanning years, Dixon has not received a final conviction on any of the charges – which would be enhanced with each conviction. Should Dixon successfully complete the probation orders presented by the court, she will not have a final DWI conviction for this charge, either.
