Spindletop Rotary gifts Blanchette Students the joy of reading

Students at Blanchette Elementary School went book shopping of a special kind Jan. 30, selecting free books to take home thanks to the generosity of the Spindletop Rotary Club.

The book giveaway took place during Blanchette’s annual book fair, an event designed to spark curiosity, inspire imagination and encourage a lifelong love of reading. Through the Spindletop Rotary Club’s support, more than 500 books were made available to students across all grade levels, ensuring every child had the opportunity to choose a book that matched their interests.

The club, a longtime champion of education and community service, funded the initiative through a $3,000 grant from Rotary District 5910, which was matched by the local club to maximize its impact. The effort reflects Rotary’s continued commitment to literacy and student success throughout the Beaumont community.

“Putting a book into a child’s hands is one of the most powerful ways we can support their future,” Spindletop Rotary Club President Debbie Bridgeman said. “We want students to feel excited about reading and to know their community believes in them and their potential.”

Blanchette Principal April Johnston said the donation created a meaningful experience for students. “Our students were thrilled to select their own books and take them home,” she said. “We are grateful for the continued partnership with Spindletop Rotary Club and their commitment to supporting literacy and learning in our school.”

The book donation is part of the club’s broader efforts to enhance educational opportunities for youth. In addition to supporting Blanchette, the club partners with Legacy Christian Academy and Interact clubs, providing leadership development opportunities through the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) program.
