Two days after the 22-year-old Silsbee man’s arrest June 27, a Jefferson County grand jury indicted a once-registered sex offender for failing to keep his predatory status updated when he moved to Beaumont.

Bronson Kelley Crites has a 2018 conviction for indecency with a child in an incident concerning a 9-year-old victim. A grand jury indicted him June 29 after the man was instructed May 3 to register as a sex offender with BPD following his move from Silsbee. On May 24, his Hardin County probation officer called BPD to see whether Crites had registered as a sex offender – he hadn’t.

Crites agreed to meet with BPD officers that day to register with the department. Despite officers warning him that he’d be charged with a third-degree felony for failing to meet with them, Crites was a no-show. According to the probable cause affidavit, Crites further failed to contact officers concerning his status.

According to officers, Crites had a week to register with BPD after moving to the city May 3. BPD officers arrested Crites June 27 for failure to reigister as a sex offender. As of press time, he was listed on the Jefferson County inmate roster with a $50,000 bond.
