Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center invites the public to escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life and partake in their new health-focused program, Wellness Wednesdays, a unique wellness experience that provides visitors with an opportunity to start their day with a rejuvenating combination of physical activity and nature. The gardens will open at 7 a.m. every Wednesday through October. Admission to Shangri La Botanical Gardens, 2111 West Park Ave. in Orange, is free of charge.

“Lace up your sneakers and come enjoy a dose of nature’s healing at Shangri La,” said Marlene Cox, guest services coordinator at Shangri La. “This spring, commit to healthy habits by engaging your mind and body in practices that promote your physical health, as well as nurture your mental well-being. We encourage individuals to also take advantage of the social opportunities made possible with this initiative by forming a walking group, spending quality time with friends and family or setting collaborative wellness goals together.”

Visitors of all ages and fitness levels are invited to experience the tranquility of early mornings in nature. During Wellness Wednesdays, walk your way to better health, energize your mind with meditation, strengthen your body with yoga, read a book or watch nature’s art. Visitors are encouraged to dress comfortably, wear walking shoes and bring water to stay hydrated.

A free, guided yoga class will be offered on select Wellness Wednesdays, the last of which took place March 20. During the free classes, visitors may enjoy adult gentle yoga in the garden to move, stretch and awaken their mind and body. Participants will learn unique connections within the body to increase muscle elasticity, loosen joints and gain flexibility.
