Jefferson County Long Term Recovery Group (JCLPRG) Executive Director Michell Brewer announced March 18 that she accepted the position of Regional Voluntary Liaison for Region 3 with Texas Division of Emergency Man agement (TDEM) and her time with JCLPRG will end Saturday, March 30.

Brewer was named executive director of JCLPRG in January 2022.

“It has been both an honor and pleasure to serve this phenomenal organization, this wonderful county, and work alongside many of you,” said Brewer. “I thank you for so many things, including your collaboration and support, but more than anything, your friendship.”

According to Brewer, her new role will be serving TDEM Region 3, a 38-county service area that includes Jefferson, Orange, Hardin, Jasper and Newton counties. Region 3 also includes the counties of Red River, Lamar, Bowie, Delta, Franklin, Titus, Camp, Morris, Cass, Rains, Wood, Upshur, Marion, Harrison, Hopkins, Gregg, Van Zandt, Smith, Rusk, Panola, Henderson, Anderson, Cherokee, Nacogdoches, Shelby, Sabine, San Augustin, Houston, Trinity, Angelina, San Jancito, Polk and Tyler.

“If you are within the region or serve this region, or if you work for a voluntary agency that serves Texas (nonpolitical organization, faith-based organization, repair/rebuild volunteer team, etc.), this is not a ‘goodbye,’ but a ‘see you soon,’” noted Brewer. “We will still be connected and working together.”

Brewer, a Silsbee resident, is also president of the Southeast Texas Voluntary Organization Active in Disaster (VOAD) and serves on the board of directors for the OneStar Foundation and Texas VOAD. She was named as the 2020 Woman of Integrity by the Better Business Bureau.

Before joining JCLTRG, she became executive director for Hardin County Strong after Hurricane Harvey and served five years.

During her tenure as executive director, Brewer stated JCLTRG has completed 76 home repair projects (the majority of which were major damage), built one new construction home, hosted 962 out-of-town repair/rebuild volunteers, and logged more than 26,000 volunteer hours – all with a paid staff of one full-time and two part-time temporary employees.

Brewer stated a new and free disasterrelated mobile app is expected to launch in April. She said it was developed and designed specifically to serve all Jefferson County households before, during and after a disaster.

She added JCLTRG’s mission brings critical value to the Jefferson County community and the most vital tools include a strong relationship with county and city Offices of Emergency Management and jurisdictional leaders.

“JCLTRG has also played an integral role in revitalizing the Southeast Texas VOAD, which had been dormant for more than three years prior, leading to new and renewed, strong relationships with local voluntary agencies that serve in all phases of disaster, and providing a table for these groups and our jurisdictional leaders to come together for networking, education and planning,” added Brewer.
