Port Neches police are searching for a suspect who tossed stolen firearms from a vehicle during a pursuit through city neighborhoods at about 2 a.m. on Sept. 25.

According to information from the Port Neches Police Department (PNPD), due to recent vehicle burglaries in the city and surrounding municipalities, officers were patrolling the 2700 block of Saba Lane when one spotted “a suspicious vehicle slow rolling with its lights off.” The officer attempted to stop the vehicle at the intersection of Saba and Landry lanes but, he reported, the driver refused to stop.

As the pursuit continued through Port Neches into Port Arthur, the officer observed the suspect throw several handguns from the vehicle. During the pursuit the officer noticed the suspect throw several pistols from the vehicle. Officers pursuing the suspect lost contact with the vehicle in the Griffing Park area. Police ultimately found the suspect vehicle abandoned in a yard on Evergreen Drive.

Officers reportedly recovered stolen property and have identified a suspect. They also recovered several handguns, magazines, holsters and other items after walking along the route of pursuit. At least one of the recovered handguns had been reported stolen in a previous burglary. The incident remains under investigation. PNPD is requesting that anyone missing property contact them and anyone with information pertaining to the crime or suspect’s location call Detective Jesse Fournet at (409) 719-4241.
