After a 30-year-old Port Arthur man allegedly assaulted his girlfriend until her face was “deformed” from swelling and then kidnapped her after a June argument, a Jefferson County Grand Jury indicted the accused for aggravated kidnapping, a first-degree felony.

At about 6:18 p.m. June 12, Port Arthur Police Department (PAPD) officers arrived at a Seventh Street residence in reference to an assault allegedly committed by a man identified as Brigido Angeles. According to the 911 caller, an injured woman approached their home and asked them to call the police.

“(The victim) had been struck in the face to the point major swelling caused her face to be deformed,” wrote PAPD Officer D. Jackson in the probable cause affidavit.

The victim told officers Angeles came over to the victim’s house and began an argument that escalated into him striking her in the face. After the assault, according to the victim, Angeles threatened to use deadly force if the victim refused to get into his vehicle. Angeles allegedly took the victim to his home on Seventh Street, where he made “several more threats to commit further harm if she didn’t comply with his demands.”

However, the victim was able to escape and run to a nearby residence, where she was able to get someone to call the police. PAPD arrived and arrested Angeles in his home.

As of press time, Angeles’ name appeared on the Jefferson County inmate roster, along with a $350,000 bond.
