Jan. 13, members of the Office of the Texas Attorney General’s Child Exploitation Unit executed an arrest warrant at the Port Neches home of city Fire Chief Paul Nelson. The arrest warrant is the result of a National Center for missing and Exploited Children Cyber Tipline report from a social media site, the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office reported following the arrest. According to additional information from the local prosecuting agency, the accusation against Nelson involves the transmission and receipt of child pornography through private messaging.

The Jefferson County DA’s office advises that promotion of child pornography is a second-degree felony offense punishable by 2-20 years in prison and a fine up to $10,000. Nelson was processed at the Jefferson County Jail but released the same day.
