In an effort to provide a more safe environment for his patients during the pandemic, a Beaumont dentist installed COVID-killing, ultraviolet-ray-emitting fans in his office Jan 29.

Dr. David Caldwell sees patients of all ages at his Harrison Avenue suite, and he’s already instituted social-distancing and other safety measures. He took it a step further at the end of January by installing half a dozen disinfecting “Haiku” fans from Big Ass Fans.

“Seamlessly integrated into the fan, Haiku’s UV-C fixture directs invisible light upward, killing viruses, bacteria, mold and other harmful airborne agents that pass through the disinfection zone at rates greater than 99.99%,” according to Big Ass Fans. “Haiku’s powerful air mixing improves circulation within the space, bringing more pathogens into the disinfection zone and halting the spread of disease.

“Available on new indoor Haiku ceiling fans, the UV-C technology is conveniently controlled through the Haiku by Big Ass Fans mobile app. Simply toggle Clean Mode to activate, or use the app’s automated preference settings to schedule routine disinfection for your space. Ions are electrically charged particles that are proven to attack and eliminate pathogens. Our fans – armed with our bipolar ionization units – create millions of ions per minute and distribute them rapidly through powerful airflow. This provides cleaner, safer air and surfaces – all without producing any harmful ozone.”
