Lamar University and ExxonMobil kicked off Cardinal Lights, the institution’s second annual holiday light display, with a festive event on Dec. 1 in the Wayne A. Reaud Building courtyard. Children’s activities, hot cocoa with holiday cookies and fireworks took center stage, only outdone by a celebrity visit from Santa.
For the entire month of December, families are invited to take a slow drive through campus to enjoy the lights and other holiday decorations. Thousands of lights will adorn trees and illuminate campus buildings around Jimmy Simmons Boulevard, Jim Gilligan Way and the Rolfe Christopher Drive entrance to campus.
The Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown Museum, 5550 Jimmy Simmons Blvd. on the LU campus, will also be merry and bright for the entire month of December with Christmas in Boomtown: City in Lights, a holiday event for all ages, featuring music, hot cocoa, letters to Santa, holiday carols and more.
