Hardin County Commissioners Court will hold its first Public Hearing on the Tax Rate for the 2020 Tax Year on Thursday, Aug. 20, at 9 a.m. A second Public Hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 25, at 9 a.m.

The proposed Tax Rate of $0.58 per $100 valuation for the 2020 Tax Year is the same as the current rate for the 2019 Tax Year, so no increase in the rate is being proposed. However, keeping the current tax rate will be considered a “tax increase” because the “No New Revenue Tax Rate” is less than 1 cent lower than the proposed tax rate. This results in anticipated added revenue to the county of $678,724.

“I know this is confusing, and I apologize for that,” County Judge Wayne McDaniel said when posting notice of the pending public hearings. More information about the county’s tax rate, public meeting agendas, and how to participate in the tax rate hearing can be found at www.co.hardin.tx.us.
