The Hardin County Commissioners Court tabled action to close a section of McGallion Road located in Pct. 2 during their Sept. 12 meeting in Kountze. 
Pct. 2 Commissioner Chris Kirkendall requested the issue to be tabled until the Jan. 10, 2023 meeting. His request was approved.
The 715 by 15-foot section was requested to be closed by Paul Watts. The road runs west of FM 2987. In a letter to the court, Watts stated he owns the road and pays taxes on that portion of the road.
“I am requesting this for the safety of my family who lives adjacent to this portion of the road,” Watts wrote.
The court approved to accept reimbursement from WHC, LLC on behalf of ExxonMobil Corp. of $184,000 to be utilized for repairs of specified County Roads located in Pct. 3 and authorize the county judge to sign the Final Settlement and Release of all claims.
Commissioners approved a resolution for submission of the Fiscal Year Bullet-Resistant Shield Grant Funding application to the Office of the Governor (OOG), Criminal Justice Division (CJD) as requested by Clay Woodward, grant coordinator.
Woodward said the grant is for five shields for the Pct. 4 Constable’s Office which provides security for Hardin-Jefferson ISD. No match is required for the grant.
In the Health Department, the court approved a professional services contract between the county on behalf of Women, Infant, and Children’s (WIC) Division and Christina Sifuentes for international board-certified lactation consultant services, effective Oct. 1 through Sept. 30, 2024.
They also approved a professional services contract between the county on behalf of WIC and Michelle Miller to provide nutrition-counseling services, effective Oct. 1 through Sept. 30, 2024.
Commissioners also approved continuing their meetings on the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month at the same location; and a holiday schedule for county employees.
Commissioners approved the reappointments of Roger Fussell and Bobby Rogers to the Southeast Texas Groundwater Conservation District Board of Directors. Fussell also served as board president.
In other action, the court approved:
• Request by County Clerk Connie Becton for a Notice of General Election on Tuesday, Nov. 8.
• Real property lease agreement between the county and City of Sour Lake for office space located at 615 State Highway 105 West for the Pct. 3 County Commissioner Office and Pct. 4 Justice of the Peace Court.
• To sell five four-wheel vehicles which were seized or forfeited, using Rene’ Bates Auctioneers.
• Results of bids for overlaying 730 feet on North Canal Lane and 542 feet on Taylor Lane in Pct. 4.
• Results of bids for materials and emulsions for all Road and Bridge precincts.
• Dale Williford, Hawthorne Field County Airport FBO to apply for the Texas Department of Transportation Aviation Routine Airport Maintenance Program (RAMP) cost-share grant for FY 2023.
• Interlocal agreement with National Cooperative Purchasing Alliance.
