In the wake of hit-and-run, a mother was indicted Jan. 26 for allegedly leaving her 13-year-old child in a wrecked auto when she abandoned the car – and the child – and fled from the scene on foot.

A Jefferson County Grand Jury indicted Miranda Antoinette Kellogg, 36 for abandoning a child. According to a report by Port Arthur Police Department (PAPD) Detective Jaquez, the charges stemmed from a May 22, 2021, fender bender at a red light on Gulfway Drive in Port Arthur.

Police report Kellogg failed to stop at a red light, causing the accident. When the vehicle Kellogg was driving came to a stop after the accident, Kellogg allegedly exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

Kellogg reportedly did not stop to see if her son was injured or if he needed medical attention, the detective reported. Kellogg allegedly left the scene, leaving her son behind alone.

Officers allegedly located Kellogg’s son later on Gulfway Drive, walking alone in the dark. The child was reportedly detained for his safety and his grandmother was called to pick him up and transport him to the hospital, where he was treated for injuries sustained during the wreck, including a fractured finger.

As of Jan. 31, Kellogg was in the Jefferson County Jail with a bond set at $25,500.
