The Port Acres Public Action (PAPA) community group conducted a community fund-raising event to purchase teddy bears for use by Port Arthur fire and police departments, as the stuffed animals are reportedly well known in making a difference in calming children that have been involved in or witnessed a stressful event.
Teddy bears can be a positive distraction for kids by embracing, giving the bears a name, and introducing them to family, a city announcement of the furry companions stated, and noted that the PAPA donation “indicates how tight the community is with everyone seeking to support each other in times of trauma and stress.”
