Fatal wreck on Highway 12

On Jan. 6, at about 4:20 p.m.,  the Vidor Police Department was called to a major accident in the 7000 block of Highway 12 involving a passenger vehicle and an 18-wheeler. The preliminary investigation showed the passenger vehicle was traveling east on Highway 12 at the time, while the 18-wheeler was traveling westbound. According to witnesses, the passenger vehicle began to drift into the westbound lane causing a head-on collision with the commercial truck.

The driver of the passenger vehicle was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Rodney Price at the scene. The driver of the 18-wheeler was transported by Acadian Ambulance to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The accident is still under investigation.

The identity of the driver who was killed is expected to be released after family has been notified.
