The Jasper County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatality following a forest fire. On Tuesday, Sept 22, the sheriff's office received a call regarding a forest fire enar County Road 082/River Rige Road. The area is part of the Hog Creek Hunting Club hunting lease.
Multiple fire departments and first responders responded to the scene, where they located a deceased male in the fire debris. Sheriff Chuck Havard says they are working to notify the family of the victim as they work to determine the circumstances surrounding the fire.
As of late Tuesday ( Sept 22) approximately 50 acres had been burned, with four structures destroyed and 12 structures saved. At that time, the fire was 35% contained.
