Driver dies as result of Buna crash

May 1, at approximately 1 p.m., Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers responded to a multiple vehicle crash at the intersection of US 96 and CR 784 in Jasper County. The crash occurred approximately four miles south of Buna.

The preliminary DPS crash investigation indicates that a 2002 Buick Century was stopped on CR 784 at the intersection of US 96. A 2020 Cadillac passenger vehicle was northbound on US 96. The driver of the Buick failed to yield the right of way and pulled into the path of the Cadillac. The Cadillac struck the Buick on the driver-side of the vehicle.

The driver of the Buick, 76-year-old Robert Solly of Newton, was transported to St. Elizabeth hospital with serious injuries. Solly did not survive his injuries and was pronounced deceased on May 3 at the hospital.

The driver of the Cadillac, 37-year-old Moriel Williams of Shreveport, Louisiana, was also transported to St. Elizabeth hospital with minor injuries. He has since been released from the hospital.
