Those needing a helping hand with putting a holiday meal on the table will have an opportunity to get the assistance they need when Shine On Humanity (SOH), a 501(c)(3) organization, hosts the third annual Mayor Thurman Bartie Christmas Meal Giveaway on Dec. 10. The non-profit organization will have a table set up near Port Arthur’s City Hall from noon to 3 p.m. at the “Holiday Downtown” event. Organizers will be giving out vouchers on a first-come, first-serve basis to citizens to pick up Christmas Meals on Saturday, Dec. 17 at a location that will be given to those who receive a voucher.

HEB Buddy will be on hand Dec. 10 to help distribute vouchers and to take pictures with young attendees.

“Life just hasn’t quite gotten back to normal, post-pandemic, and the downslope of the economy has left our pockets a bit thin,” commented Van Shotwell, COO of SOH. “We know that a meal doesn’t solve all of our problems, but we sure hope that it lessens one burden for one special day of the year.”

Also on Dec. 10, Beaumont’s West Tabernacle Baptist Church is hosting a Santa’s Toy Land event with giveaways for children age infant to teen. Visit 3605 Waco St. in Beaumont on Dec. 10 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to receive the surprises. For more information, call (409) 842-3360.
