Calvin Walker to appear in court Jan. 23

As part of Jefferson County Judge John Sevens’ probation review docket Friday, Jan. 23, former Beaumont ISD contract electrician Calvin Walker is set to appear and answer questions as to what progress has been made toward payment of restitution owed to the school district.

In November 2022, Walker was sentenced to serve 180 days of incarceration over the course of successive weekends and 10 years of probationary supervision, as well as pay restitution in excess of $1.7 million and a $1,000 fine, for the crime of securing a document by deception as indicted in July 2014. The swindled document as charged was a check for illegally bilked funds from the coffers of BISD.

Due to failure to pay restitution in the years since sentencing, Walker’s probation was revoked but he was allowed to remain free from prison on bond while the probation revocation is pending an appeal decision. Stevens ordered, as a condition of bond, for Walker to make substantial restitution payments to BISD, and sign over all private property holdings to be sold.

A dozen years post indictment, the court is now hosting regular review hearings, per the judge, to secure restitution for the school district.
