BPD investigates early morning shootout

Thursday, Dec. 31, at 4:54 a.m., Beaumont police responded to College & South Dowlen in reference to a suicidal person with a gun, according to a news release.

Patrol officers arrived and attempted to de-escalate the situation, however the suspect would not comply. A SWAT response was initiated and at about 7:30 a.m., the suspect began firing shots, resulting in an officer returning fire. The suspect was pronounced deceased on the scene. No one else was injured during the incident. The investigation is on-going.

A traffic alert is still in place while the investigation continues. Updates will be posted as more information is revealed.
