Monday, Sept. 14, Beaumont ISD received confirmation that a staff member who was on location at Smith Middle School and Odom Academy tested positive for COVID-19, according to a news release.

The individual was last on campus on September 10, 2020. Beaumont ISD’s Mitigation Plan provides for extensive cleaning and sanitization protocols, as well as social distancing procedures, including the wearing of face masks. As such, CDC guidance provides that the risk of someone contracting COVID-19 from the staff member is low and this notice is being provided in an abundance of caution. Nevertheless, Beaumont ISD has been in close communication with officials at the Beaumont Public Health Department, and the District is following all recommended protocols.

"(Monday night), both Smith Middle School and Odom Academy (underwent) deep cleaning and disinfection to open for staff," the release reads. "Both campuses will open tomorrow for employees not directly impacted.

"All employees who were in contact with the individual have been notified of their possible exposure and are required to self-isolate for 14 days. Members of the public that visited the building in the last week should continue to closely monitor their health and contact their health provider immediately should they experience any symptoms. In addition, please continue all other safeguards outlined by the CDC including frequently washing your hands with soap and water, avoiding touching your face, staying home if you feel sick and cleaning frequently touched surfaces and objects daily. The health and safety of our community is our top priority and we appreciate your cooperation as we work through these challenges as a community."
