At a special called meeting April 3, the Beaumont City Council unanimously voted to extend the city's "Stay Home, Work Safe" order intended to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

The original order was set to expire after seven days, but the new one has no expiry. The order has to be lifted by ordinance of the city. The amended order calls for all retailers, including grocery stores, to limit customers to one adult per household. The new order further closes all city-owned basketball courts and playgrounds, the latter were roped off a day before Friday's meeting.

The city's public transit system as also seen a shift in operational procedures. Riders won't be charged to use city buses, according to Mayor Becky Ames, in order to reduce contact. The buses will only allow 10 riders on at a time to comply with social-distancing mandates.
