The Symphony of Southeast Texas has announced details for their upcoming 2021-22 season, “Playing it Forward,” with the incomparable Maestro Chelsea Tipton II leading the orchestra in a wonderful array of favorites, with some new pieces sure to be future classics at the Julie Rogers Theatre.
The season opens Sept. 18 with “Fate and Fantasy,” which includes the epic works of Sibelius’ Finlandia and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4. The amazing violinist Andrew Sords will join for Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy.
The first Pops concert, “From the Heart,” will be Oct. 16 when NBC’s America’s Got Talent finalist, Daniel Emmet, joins the orchestra for an evening full of a wide range of expression that spans musical genres from rock to pop to opera, all the while singing in seven languages.
The Oct. 30 is titled “Symphony for Our World” and combines National Geographic’s stunning visuals with an original score by Emmy- and BAFTA-nominated Bleeding Fingers Music, performed by the symphony.
The symphony will return to Shangri La Botanical Gardens on Nov. 14. Spend a delightful afternoon on the Great Lawn among the beautiful plantings, flowers and great friends as you are entertained by the symphony. The popular Symphony at Shangri La concert will feature baritone Blas Canedo-Gonzalez and Maestro Tipton, who will have a great variety of popular and movie classics picked out to enhance this beautiful setting.
The holiday season will be celebrated Dec. 5 with “Home for the Holidays.” The Southeast Texas Starlettes, with their beautiful four-part harmonies, will add a humorous twist to the standard Christmas standards in their portion of the concert, “Waiting for Santa.” These four young ladies first appeared at the Beaumont Community Players and include Genevieve Brassard, Lauren Millner-Sanchez, Lydia Seay and Lara Strawther.
The Classic Series III concert will open 2022 on Feb. 19. The award-winning pianist, Claire Huangci, will return with Schumann’s Piano Concerto.
The second Pops concert is slated for March 5 and will have you dancing in your seat and tapping your toes to the beat. Radiance, the Ladies of Motown, pay tribute to the music of the Supremes, Martha & the Vandellas and the Marvelettes.
The season finale, “Glory and Grandeur” is April 2. The evening will include Mozart’s Requiem, his final composition and one of his finest. Our “Glory” is celebrated as SOST is joined by four outstanding soloists, the Beaumont Interfaith Choral Society and the SOST chorus.
