West End Crossing Apartments
At 10 a.m. July 30, Beaumont Police Department (BPD) officers responded to a shooting in the West End Crossing Apartments, 6550 Phelan Blvd., to find a teenager dead and the gunman still at the scene, BPD reported.
According to the preliminary report from BPD, the deceased teen was attempting to drive away in a stolen vehicle when he was confronted, and subsequently fatally shot, by the vehicle’s owner.
The victim, who was reportedly shot multiple times, was identified as 17-yearold Zavion Massey of Houston. Jefferson County Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Ben Collins Sr. ordered an autopsy.
According to a BPD news release, detectives are continuing their investigation and more information will be released as it is available. Detectives will present their findings to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office to determine if any charges will be filed.
