To kick off the 2015-16 school year, the Port Arthur Library is inviting students to collaborate with artist Ted Ellis. This educational mini-workshop Saturday, Sept. 5, from 2-4 p.m. will be an interactive time to engage each student and teach the value of the arts. This will also be a time of encouragement for students to be creative and broaden their imagination. Ellis and students will design one large mural together by the end of the workshop.

Total Petrochemicals & Refining USA Inc. on Thursday reported operational problems at a sulfur recovery unit within its refinery in Port Arthur, Texas that led to excess gas emissions. The company, a unit of Total SA (TOT, FP.FR), said the unexpected disruption occurred Tuesday night. It didn't indicate whether fuel output at the 174,000 barrel-a-day refinery was impacted, but said the refinery is now operating normally. "Petrochemicals & Refining USA, Inc., addressed the issue by implementing procedures to minimize emissions and restarting the unit.

Total Petrochemicals has selected Port Arthur as the site for an estimated $1.6 billion petrochemical plant, known as an ethane cracker, which will produce a base ingredient in plastics from natural gas and has a capacity of 1,000 kilotons to supply ethane to the Gulf Coast region.
