Walker re-trial to start in Beaumont

Electrician Calvin Walker's second trial on charges of defrauding the Beaumont Independent School District will start in Beaumont on July 23 after a federal judge's ruling on Thursday. U.S. District Judge Ron Clark ruled that if 60 jurors can't be found within two days of the trial's start, it will be moved to Lufkin and the trial will start on July 30.

When TOTAL electrical engineer Beth Wheeler volunteered to serve as a docent for the Catholic Daughters Tour in a home belonging to Maggie Reynolds in the old historic district of Orange, she had no idea what adventure she and fellow engineer and husband, Kenneth, were about to begin. The Reynolds’ home intrigued Beth, and she simply fell in love with the old neighborhood where folks were friendly, homes were open, and the general atmosphere so reminded her of days gone by in her memory.

Settlement offer does not quell quest for justice

Nearly two years have passed since 28-year-old Marine veteran James Whitehead was fatally shot outside an Orange auto parts store by off-duty police Captain Robert Arnold, yet the legal battles surrounding the homicide are far from over. A financial settlement was tentatively awarded to the family this month, but the survivors said they would rather have justice than money.
