West Hardin High School’s Logan Wells was named state champion in the UIL Class 2A Congress and Speech state champion last week in Austin.

Wells is the fourth state champ in Congress and 11th Speech state champion from West Hardin since 2014.

Also, West Hardin’s Willa Brackin placed ninth and Derrick Jackson was 12th.

According to coach Sandra Peek, students compete at a regional tournament and place in the top three to advance. At the regional meet, Wells was first, Brackin second, Jackson third and Christopher Dodson finished fourth.

Once at state, top students in each region compete against each other in preliminary chambers.  Students in the top one-third of those chambers advance to finals at the state competition.
